ALBANY, NY TO BE THE HOME OF THE SECOND “PINK RIBBON GARDEN PROJECT” BY LIBBY’S LEGACY BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION AND GRAMMY AWARD WINNER, MELISSA ETHERIDGE. Albany, NY. (October 3, 2018)) – Libby's Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation, in partnership with singer/songwriter/Breast Cancer survivor Melissa Etheridge, will be breaking ground on the second “Pink Ribbon Garden Project” in the United States on donated property in Christmas Land on Oct.14, 2018. Studies show that eating healthy can reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence significantly in breast cancer survivors. Unfortunately, for patients who are underserved and living in lower income settings, healthy food can be difficult to obtain. The organic shared garden idea was born through collaboration and a desire to bring clean eating and healthy foods to breast cancer patients. Breast Cancer survivors will oversee the garden, harvest produce which will provide healthy food for their families and the families of patients currently undergoing treatment. “Food equality for low-income survivors needs to be unlocked and the Pink Ribbon Garden Project is the key,” said Robin Maynard-Harris, Founder of Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation. “It’s a great way for survivors to not only help themselves eat healthier, but to help others because for each bag of fresh food they harvest, another is donated to someone currently in treatment through the grow one, give one model.” Currently, the “Pink Ribbon Garden Project” has a successful garden located in Orlando, FL, and it consists of a a 29’ x 17’ raised bed garden box in the shape of an awareness ribbon. Plans for the third garden have been approved for a location in Nashville, TN. “I’m really excited to be bringing this to upstate NY,” said Melissa Etheridge, Co-Founder and Grammy Award winner. “We looked at some of the breast cancer statistics in the area and saw a true need for this type of project. I’m happy it’s home to garden number two in what we hope to be many more to come.” The group will break ground on October 14, 2018 with the first harvest in the spring of 2019. The project has already received praise throughout the community and an outpouring of support. Sponsorship is provided by SEFCU, Albany Med, Lowe’s, MVP Heath Care, Christmas Land, G Foxx Properties and Tobin & Dunshee, LLP. All media are invited to attend the official breaking ground event. I really have a big respect to all the gardeners in every country. I think that their job is one of the hardest jobs. They give foods to others that is why whenever I see my children not finishing their food, I get angry at them. It is very important to educate our children that every food is very important. They do not know the efforts that other people have given to it in order to produce those. I am so thankful that we have them in our lives.

Melissa really deserves that award she got in the Grammy. Having this kind of advocacy is really a big help for those who are struggling in cancers. I really admire those who have cancer and still cheer other people who also have the same case. I can relate to this kind of situation even if I did not have a cancer because I was diagnosed having a dermoid cyst before and it resulted me to unable bear a child anymore. After that incident, I have come up with joining with advocacies like this.
